Lawyer: Tinubu Has No Legal Power to Direct EFCC
Senior Advocate of Nigeria Oba Maduabuchi says President Bola Tinubu has no legal power to direct the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission or other anti-graft agencies. Speaking during a television interview, Maduabuchi argued that anti-corruption bodies must be independent enough to investigate the executive, legislature and judiciary. He said public direction of the EFCC by officials it may need to investigate could undermine public confidence. His comments followed the EFCC's freezing of an Osun State Government account shortly before the governorship election and Tinubu's reported directive for the agency to vacate the court order.
