Super Eagles Could Return to Abuja as Moshood Abiola Stadium Renovation Begins
The Super Eagles may have a new home venue from 2027 as the Federal Government begins plans to renovate the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja. National Sports Commission chairman Shehu Dikko said contracts have been awarded for a major upgrade. The project includes a new playing surface, rebuilt athletics tracks and dressing rooms, two training pitches, a media centre and improvements to the players’ hostel. Dikko said the Abuja pitch will be handled by international specialists, with soil and water samples tested abroad to support the installation of quality grass. The target is to complete the work by March 2027, although the timeline will depend on the pace of construction. Uyo is expected to remain the Super Eagles’ home ground until then. If completed, the Abuja upgrade could give the team another suitable venue and make home matches easier to attend for supporters in the FCT and nearby states.
