Northern Leaders Unite to Back State Police for Stronger Security
Northern governors and traditional rulers met in Kaduna to review the region’s worsening security situation. They issued a communique calling for the establishment of state police and endorsed ongoing federal efforts to amend the constitution. The forum pledged to boost intelligence sharing, build community resilience and support the newly inaugurated Security Trust Fund. Member states committed to contributing one billion naira monthly and urged stakeholders—traditional institutions, civil society and the media—to back the initiative. Leaders also resolved to tackle poverty, unemployment and illiteracy as root causes of unrest. They emphasised sustained investments in education, agriculture, youth empowerment and healthcare alongside joint security operations.
