Three Inmates Handed Whole-Life Sentences for Killing Convicted Child Killer
Three inmates at HMP Wakefield have been given whole-life prison terms for the murder of Kyle Bevan, a convicted child killer. Mark Fellows (45), Lee Newell (57) and David Taylor (64) were found guilty of a premeditated, violent attack inside the high-security prison in November 2025. Prosecutors told the court the trio followed Bevan into his cell and used improvised weapons made from prison materials. The assault lasted several minutes before they arranged his body to look as if he were asleep and left the scene. Evidence presented in court included CCTV footage of the attack and Taylor’s previous boasts about making makeshift weapons. All three were already serving lengthy sentences and will now spend the rest of their lives behind bars. Chief Inspector James Entwistle called the killing a “brutal, premeditated attack” and stressed that serious crimes in custody will be fully investigated. The case has renewed scrutiny of how vulnerable prisoners are managed at HMP Wakefield.
