Tinubu’s 2023 Electricity Promise: Has His Government Met the Standard He Set?

President Bola Tinubu told voters during the 2023 campaign to judge his re-election bid by whether his administration delivered electricity and other key promises. As the 2027 election approaches, that challenge has become an accountability test. Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda covered electricity, jobs, security, infrastructure and economic reform. In his inauguration speech, he also promised more accessible power, increased generation and one million digital-economy jobs. A June 2026 assessment by the AdvoKC Foundation reviewed 53 campaign promises and classified some as kept, compromised or broken. Those findings are independent assessments, not government figures. The government has, however, pointed to electricity reforms, meter deployment, investment and off-grid projects as evidence of progress. The central question is whether the results match the promises made. Nigerians should examine the evidence, the unmet targets and the government’s explanations before deciding what record deserves another mandate.
