Abuja Police Charge 19-Year-Old Over Cyberbullying and Kidnap Threats
Aliyu Saidu, a 19-year-old resident of Dutse Alhaji, Abuja, appeared in Life Camp Magistrates’ Court on Thursday. He faces charges of criminal intimidation, harassment, cyber stalking, cyberbullying and extortion for allegedly sending offensive messages and threatening to kidnap a woman. The prosecutor told the court that on June 6, Saidu sent grossly offensive messages demanding N2 million, a brand-new Bajaj motorcycle, 16 bottles of codeine, 20 packs of tramadol and a carton of condoms. He also threatened to abduct the complainant and her children if she failed to comply. Police say his actions placed the complainant’s family in fear. During investigation, Saidu made a confessional statement admitting he sent the messages from his phone. The magistrate granted bail of N500,000 with one surety who must reside within the court’s jurisdiction. The case has been adjourned until July 27 for hearing.
