I’m Rewriting My Story: From Kidnap Survivor in Libya to Federal University Student
In 2015, I left Nigeria for Libya seeking greener pastures. Instead, I was imprisoned, kidnapped and nearly sold into human slavery. In 2017, I returned home with my newborn son. Back in Nigeria, no one wanted to employ a nursing mother. I hawked snacks, sold kunu and fries, and did odd cleaning jobs to survive. By 2019, my son was in school and I had regular work. In 2020, I was diagnosed with depression. I responded by learning tailoring and beginning therapy. I also committed myself to campaigning against human trafficking. Since 2023, I’ve supported over 500 people trapped abroad and launched my own business. I gained admission to a federal university in 2024 and began my SIWES placement in a government hospital. Later this year, I plan to open my herbal academy. Every year has brought new challenges and victories. Today, I am grateful to be rewriting my story.
