NEC Approves ₦185 Billion to Clear Gas Debts and Boost Power Supply
The National Economic Council has approved ₦185 billion to settle validated legacy debts owed to upstream gas producers, according to the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Ekperikpe Ekpo. The minister said clearing the debts could improve gas supply to power plants, strengthen reliability in the gas-to-power chain and rebuild investor confidence in the sector. Ekpo added that the OB3 Gas Pipeline is ready for first gas, while the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano pipeline is about 95 per cent complete. The government is also pursuing expanded CNG, LPG and domestic gas infrastructure as part of its 2030 energy targets.
