Malawi Replaces Reigning Miss Malawi With Minister’s Daughter for Miss World
Malawi’s Miss World selection has sparked controversy after reigning Miss Malawi, Thandi Chisi, was replaced by first runner-up Ireen Navicha, daughter of Cabinet Minister Mary Navicha. Organisers first said Chisi was above the age limit, but the explanation was questioned because she was reportedly still within Miss World’s eligibility range. The Miss Malawi Organisation later apologised for what it called an age-eligibility misunderstanding. Sponsors and pageant officials said the choice reflected a new approach of creating international opportunities for finalists beyond the winner. Navicha represented Malawi at Miss World 2026 in Vietnam and reached the Top 40, the country’s best performance at the competition.
