Utah Judge Allows Death Penalty Case Against Charlie Kirk Murder Suspect to Proceed
A Utah judge has ruled that prosecutors may pursue a death penalty case against Tyler Robinson, who has pleaded not guilty to the alleged murder of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Robinson, 23, faces seven charges over the September 10, 2025 shooting at a Turning Point USA campus event at Utah Valley University in Orem. Prosecutors allege he fired from a rooftop, killing Kirk in front of a large crowd. The prosecution cited surveillance footage, alleged DNA evidence on the weapon and statements said to link Robinson to the shooting. His lawyers argue that the incident involved one intended victim and does not meet the threshold for a capital charge. The case is expected to return to court on October 23, when a trial date may be discussed.
