The controversy around FIFA President Gianni Infantino and the withdrawn FIFA Forward Enterprise proposal has reopened questions about transparency and leadership in world football. The plan would have created a commercial company to manage major FIFA competition rights, with a minority stake offered to private investors. UEFA, Concacaf and the Asian Football Confederation strongly opposed the proposal, with UEFA reportedly warning it could boycott FIFA competitions. FIFA later withdrew the plan and acknowledged that its handling had caused concern among member associations. US President Donald Trump has defended Infantino, arguing that removing him would be a mistake after his role in overseeing the 2026 World Cup. Critics, however, say the episode exposed major governance failures and inadequate consultation. In my view, FIFA should demand clear reforms, stronger accountability and proper consultation before considering another leadership battle. Should Infantino be given the chance to fix these failures, or is it time for FIFA to choose new leadership?
