NCWS Urges Nigeria to End Child Marriage and Protect Girls’ Rights
The National Council of Women Societies has called on governments, parents, schools, community leaders and civil society groups to intensify efforts to end child marriage and protect the rights of girls in Nigeria. Marking the 2026 International Day of the Girl Child, the council said many girls still face child marriage, gender-based violence, discrimination, poverty and limited access to quality education and healthcare. It urged stakeholders to ensure that girls remain in school, gain useful skills and are included in decisions affecting their future. The council also called for stronger investment in girls’ education, safety and personal development. It said protecting and empowering girls is essential to building stronger families, communities and a more inclusive Nigeria.
