Zamfara Governor’s Chief of Staff Survives Armed Ambush on Funtua–Gusau Highway

Suspected bandits opened fire on the convoy of Alhaji Mouktar Lugga, the Chief of Staff to the Zamfara State Governor, near Kucheri village on April 2, 2026 at around 6:16 p.m. Attackers emerged from both sides of the road and fired at the vehicle carrying Lugga, his driver and two aides. A bullet pierced the windshield and narrowly missed the driver. A second gunman attempted a close-range shot but the weapon misfired. The driver managed to evade the ambush and all occupants escaped without injury.
