Pope Leo XIV Urges African Youths to Serve Their Homeland Instead of Migrating
During his visit to Cameroon, Pope Leo XIV spoke at the Catholic University of Central Africa in Yaoundé and celebrated Mass in Douala. He warned that corruption and the flight of skilled workers still block Africa’s progress. The Pontiff acknowledged the desire to seek better opportunities abroad. Yet he stressed that young people’s first duty is to contribute to their nation’s development. He invited students to use their education for the common good rather than seeing migration as the only path to prosperity. He also called for a generational commitment to root out corruption. According to the Pope, this awareness must begin in youth and guide them to serve their communities.
