Doris Ogala Rejects Abia’s ₦150m Campaign Billboard Permit Fee, Accuses Otti of Targeting Opposition

Abia AAC governorship candidate Doris Ogala has rejected the state’s proposed ₦150 million permit fee for campaign billboards, alleging that it is designed to frustrate opposition candidates ahead of the 2027 election. The Abia State Structures for Signages and Advertising Agency said the fee was approved by the state government and presented to political parties at a stakeholders’ meeting. The directive also sets permit fees of ₦200 million for presidential candidates, ₦100 million for senatorial candidates, ₦50 million for House of Representatives candidates and ₦20 million for state assembly candidates. Ogala said the charge would shut out candidates without wealthy backers and challenged the government to remove her campaign materials if she does not pay. She urged Governor Alex Otti’s administration to withdraw the policy, while AAC presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore also criticised the governor over the controversy.
