Customs Intercepts 204 Pump-Action Rifles Hidden in Container at Tin Can Port
The Tin Can Island Port Command of the Nigeria Customs Service says it has intercepted components used to assemble 204 MAS 49 Alter Magnum pump-action rifles in a container shipped from Turkey. Customs said the 20-foot container arrived aboard the MV Algeciras Express on 16 August 2026 and was flagged for a full physical examination two days later. The firearm parts were allegedly concealed among declared used household items, including furniture, refrigerators, solar panels and detergent. Officials said discrepancies were found in the shipment documents, including details relating to the consignee. A joint team of Customs armament officers and the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons assembled the recovered parts and documented additional components. The items will be handed over to the small-arms control centre as investigations continue into the shipment and those responsible.
