Port Harcourt Trader Loses Three Bags of Rice to Fraud, Police Rescue Suspect from Mob
On June 17, officers from the Nkpolu Police Division in Port Harcourt rescued an alleged fraud accomplice from an angry mob at Bishop Okoye Street Market, Mile 3 Diobu. The trader, known as Chinedu, had handed over three bags of rice to two men who promised to pay later. When one of them tried to slip away without payment, the trader’s suspicion led to the man’s arrest and a public alert. Witnesses say the mob attempted to beat the suspect, identified as Uchechukwu Ebuka, until police arrived under the leadership of the divisional officer and took him into custody. The police public relations officer reiterated a warning against jungle justice, urging residents to detain suspects safely and hand them over to the authorities rather than taking the law into their own hands.
