Top Graduate Dies in Motorcycle Accident After Years of Unemployment
Augustine Elem, reportedly the best graduating student in his 2015 set at the Federal College of Agriculture, Isiagu, has died following a motorcycle accident after years of struggling to find work. He was later recognised again as the institution’s overall best student across six consecutive graduating sets. Despite applying to be retained as a lecturer, he was reportedly unable to secure a position. After pursuing further studies and running a PoS business to survive, he bought a motorcycle with proceeds from the business. He was involved in an accident while travelling to collect money for the business and later died in hospital. His death has renewed concerns about unemployment, merit and the failure to retain outstanding graduates in Nigerian institutions.
