Delta Police Investigate Alleged ‘Rape Festival’ After Women Attacked in Ozoro
On Thursday, March 19, several women in Ozoro, Delta State were attacked during the community’s annual festival, which traditionally bars women from public view. Those found outdoors were chased and assaulted by groups of men. Videos circulating on social media show young men tearing women’s clothes and molesting them in broad daylight. Victims cried for help as some were reportedly raped during the rampage. The Delta State Police Command has launched an investigation. Spokesperson SP Bright Edafe confirmed that arrests are underway and that an official statement will follow. Nigerians have taken to social media to condemn the violence.
