When Proximity Ends, Do We Still Choose the Friendship?
Some friendships grow because life keeps placing two people in the same spaces: church, work, the daily commute or a familiar road home. Conversations become easy, laughter comes naturally and silence feels comfortable. Then life changes. Someone moves away, changes jobs or leaves the church. Without that shared routine, messages become occasional and visits stop. People who once knew each other well may only keep up through WhatsApp status updates. Proximity can introduce a friendship, but intentionality is what sustains it. The friendships that truly matter are the ones we choose to maintain, even when there is no longer a convenient reason to call, visit or make the journey.
