World Mental Health Day: Why Nigerians Must Prioritise Mental Wellbeing
Today, October 10, marks World Mental Health Day. Mental wellbeing deserves daily attention, not only when life becomes overwhelming. Simple habits can help: rest well, stay physically active, eat nourishing meals, take breaks from screens and spend time outdoors. Setting boundaries, saying no when necessary and keeping trusted friends or family close can also reduce stress. Professional support is important, but it is often costly and difficult to access. Nigeria has fewer than 300 practising psychiatrists serving a population of more than 200 million people, leaving many people without timely care. Prioritise your mental wellbeing. If you are struggling, speak with someone you trust and seek professional support where available.
