Not by Bread Alone: Feeding the Spirit With God’s Word
Daily Devotional — 9 September 2026 Jesus spoke these words after fasting for 40 days in the wilderness. Though He was hungry, He refused the temptation to meet a legitimate need through an illegitimate shortcut. His response reminds us that physical food alone cannot sustain the whole person. Bread nourishes the body for a time, but God’s Word strengthens the soul, guides our choices and helps us resist temptation. A full stomach does not always mean a fulfilled life; many people still hunger for meaning, direction and peace. This message is not against meeting physical needs. It calls for balance. Feed your body, but do not neglect your spirit. Let God’s Word be your daily source of strength and guidance. Prayer: Lord, forgive me for trying to satisfy spiritual hunger with natural substitutes. Help me to make Your Word my daily bread. Amen. Further reading: Deuteronomy 8:3; Job 23:12. Bible reading plan: Isaiah 43–44; 2 Corinthians 5.
