World Bank Clarifies Anambra State Didn’t Opt into 2024 HOPE-Governance Programme

The World Bank has confirmed that Anambra State did not express interest in joining its 2024 HOPE-Governance Programme. According to the Bank’s July report, 35 states and the FCT applied. Anambra was not among them. The Soludo administration says this was an administrative decision based on priorities and fiscal timelines—not a sanction. Ongoing discussions and due diligence are underway to align future programmes with the state’s development agenda. The government urged media and the public to verify reports before publication to avoid spreading misleading information.

I'm curious about the missing application: what caused Anambra's form to be left out of the 2024 HOPE-Governance submissions?

It's striking that 35 states applied this year and yet Anambra was nowhere to be found in the report.

State officials should publish a clear timeline for future HOPE-Governance applications, ensuring transparency and avoiding similar oversights in the next funding cycle.
