Delta Family Challenges Alleged Lease Deal Over Newly Discovered Oil Land
A dispute has emerged in Okpe-Isoko community, Delta State, after the Adhakpor family rejected an alleged lease agreement involving oil-bearing land and Sterling Global Limited. The family said it did not authorise anyone to negotiate or sign a lease, Memorandum of Understanding or related document on its behalf. It said only its elected executives and other recognised representatives, appointed at a general meeting on October 4, 2026, can handle transactions involving the land. The family alleged that non-members were included in a negotiation committee and said it may seek redress in court. Its head also alleged he was arrested over his opposition to the deal. The community president disputed the claim, saying both branches of the family were represented on the committee. He said the disagreement concerns which branch owns the portion of land where the oil well was discovered and who should benefit from the proceeds.
