Anambra Assembly Proposes Igboukwu Yam House as Official Tourism Hub
The Anambra State House of Assembly has urged Governor Chukwuma Soludo to direct the Commissioner for Culture, Tourism and Entertainment to designate the National Yam House in Igboukwu as a state tourism and festival centre. The motion, sponsored by the member for Aguata Constituency Two, noted the rich cultural potential of the National Yam Festival and its status as one of three national festivals celebrating Nigeria’s major ethnic groups. Lawmakers highlighted Igboukwu’s heritage sites, including the National Art Exhibition Centre, the Centre for African Arts and Civilization, and the National Gallery of Art. They also recalled the 1958 discovery of Igboukwu’s ancient bronzes. The House adopted the resolution unanimously and urged the state government to act swiftly to boost tourism and showcase Anambra’s cultural legacy.
