US Army to Deploy First Dark Eagle Hypersonic Missile Battery Soon
The U.S. Army will field its first Dark Eagle hypersonic missile battery within weeks. This surface-to-surface boost-glide system can strike targets beyond 3,500 km at speeds over Mach 5 while evading defenses. A single battery includes four transporter-erector launchers carrying eight ready rounds, plus a command centre and support vehicles. The 5th Battalion, 3rd Field Artillery Regiment at Joint Base Lewis-McChord will be the initial unit to operate the system. Despite earlier delays and ongoing testing gaps, recent full-flight tests showed successful boosts over 3,200 km. The Army plans further deployments across Multi-Domain Task Forces, aiming to strengthen long-range strike options against advanced threats.
