Navy Calls for Joint Maritime Disaster Response Plan in Cross River
The Naval War College Nigeria has called for closer cooperation among security agencies, emergency managers and maritime stakeholders to improve disaster preparedness in Cross River State. At a three-day maritime security seminar in Calabar, officials warned that flooding, coastal erosion and storm surges are increasing risks across the state’s coastal communities. They said no single institution can effectively manage these disasters alone. Key recommendations included creating a Maritime Emergency Coordination Centre, holding regular multi-agency simulation exercises, developing a unified disaster information system and harmonising response procedures. Participants were urged to ensure the resolutions lead to practical action.
