Hamzat Outlines 30-Year Lagos Plan for Tech Skills and More Medical Professionals
Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat says Lagos must invest in practical skills, medical education and long-term planning to meet the needs of its fast-growing population. He wants more young people trained in fields such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and blockchain, arguing that employers need job-ready workers rather than graduates without relevant practical skills. Hamzat also proposes expanding medical training through a University of Medicine and Allied Sciences. He says Lagos should raise its annual output from about 300 doctors to as many as 1,000, while training more nurses, pharmacists and other health professionals. The wider 30-year framework links human-capital development with housing, transport, security, flood control and waste management. He says the plan will require qualified instructors, modern facilities and training that keeps pace with employers' needs.
