My Pregnant Fiancée Cancelled Our Wedding the Night Before—Should I Wait or Move On?

I need honest advice about my relationship. My fiancée, who is pregnant with my child, called off our wedding the night before it was meant to hold. We had both planned to marry, but I made a serious mistake by claiming I could afford a wedding budget of nearly ₦2 million when I could not. When my financial plans failed two weeks before the date, I confessed to her. She initially agreed that we should go ahead, contributed heavily to the expenses, and I borrowed money to cover the rest. On the night before the wedding, she spoke to her family about her fears. They reportedly convinced her not to continue because they believed I was not financially stable and had not completed everything required. Both families had already travelled and gathered, so the cancellation was humiliating for me and my relatives. She later apologised, admitted she had been influenced by her family, and we tried to rebuild the relationship because we still loved each other and she is carrying my child. I have repaid almost all the money I borrowed for the wedding, except for less than ₦400,000 owed to one person. I explained my situation and offered to pay ₦50,000 weekly, but he contacted my fiancée’s family instead. After they heard about the debt, she blocked me everywhere. I have respected her space and have not tried to contact her through another number or through friends. Should I keep waiting, reach out once more, or move on? If she returns, should I still consider marrying her after what happened? Most importantly, if we do not reconcile, how can I remain a responsible and present father to my unborn child?

Did she explain whether the cancellation was mainly about the wedding budget claim, or are there deeper trust issues between you both?

Exactly. Before deciding whether to wait or move on, he needs clarity on what truly led to the cancellation.

Calling it off the night before suggests the problem may be bigger than the ceremony itself. Pregnancy and wedding pressure can expose unresolved worries quickly.

Waiting indefinitely may not prove commitment. You should own the mistake, but she also needs to clearly say whether she still wants this relationship.

Have a calm conversation focused on trust, finances, and co-parenting. Put wedding plans aside for now and agree on what rebuilding confidence would actually require.
