Mother Charged with Murder After Shooting Intruder Hiding Under Daughter’s Bed
A Memphis woman has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder and use of a firearm during a dangerous felony. She shot a man she discovered hiding under her daughter’s bed. Police say officers responded to a shooting call on Travis Road in Southwest Memphis. They found the victim, identified as Rodderius Morton, with a gunshot wound to the back of his head. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators learned that the man had been invited into the home through the back door around 1 a.m. The mother returned thirty minutes later, armed and angry. A juvenile witness said the suspect barged in, threatened to “put a hole in his a**,” then found Morton under the bed. A verbal argument led to the fatal shot on the front porch. The suspect, Kendra Scott, is in custody with no bond. She is due back in court on July 20 for her arraignment.
