Don’t Revive Fuel Subsidy, Tinubu — Stop Borrowing from the Future
I know some will disagree, but bringing back a fuel subsidy now means using tomorrow’s money to solve today’s problem. That is more borrowing, more debt, and more trouble down the line. For years, Nigeria used consumption subsidies instead of building a real safety net. We ducked industrialization, serious tax reform, and the hard fight against corruption. The result is a big debt burden and a system that rewards waste. We must drop the slogans from both the opposition and the government. If we want a working economy, we have to let it make a profit. If we insist on subsidies now, then be honest and tax everyone at about 40% to pay for them. No ifs and buts. If consumption subsidies worked, we would be developed by now. I have held this view since 2012. Criticise me if you want, but name‑calling will not change the facts. I’m not backing APC, PDP, or ADC.
