Kenya Beats UK to Host Historic 2029 World Athletics Championships

Kenya has won the right to host the 2029 World Athletics Championships, beating the United Kingdom’s bid during the World Athletics Council meeting in Budapest. The event will be the first World Athletics Championships held in Africa. Nairobi previously hosted the World U18 Championships in 2017 and the World U20 Championships in 2021. World Athletics president Sebastian Coe described Nairobi’s bid as compelling and said bringing the competition to Africa is a historic step. Munich, Germany, will host the 2031 edition.
