Ukraine Drone Attack Sets Ablaze Russia’s Syzran Oil Refinery, Civilian Killed
Ukrainian drones struck the Syzran oil refinery in Russia’s Samara region, killing one man and injuring three others, including a child, according to regional authorities. Several residential buildings and industrial facilities were damaged. Independent media identified the site as the Rosneft-owned Syzran refinery, which processes about 8.5 million tons of crude annually. Social media footage showed large fires burning across the facility. The Russian military said it shot down 349 Ukrainian drones overnight, one of the largest such attacks in recent weeks. Previous strikes in May had already halted refinery operations. Repeated blows to Russia’s refining infrastructure have led to fuel shortages, with petrol stations rationing supplies and long queues forming. Kyiv says its campaign aims to pressure President Putin into negotiations over the war.
