Manchester United Named Europe’s Worst Club for Player Value Decline
Manchester United have recorded the biggest player-value decline among European clubs, according to a new CIES Football Observatory study. The report estimates that the club’s signings since 2022 have lost a combined €405 million in value. The figure includes €186 million lost on players who have left the club and a further €219 million decline in the estimated value of players still in the squad. United’s transfer activity over the period totalled €1.319 billion. Only Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal performed worse globally, with a reported €502 million decline. Eintracht Frankfurt led the rankings for value growth, followed closely by Real Madrid. The findings will add to scrutiny of United’s recruitment, with several high-cost signings struggling to maintain their previous market value at Old Trafford.
