Reps Give IGP 48 Hours to Produce Suspect in Alleged $1.3bn Fake Agency Scam
The House of Representatives has given the Inspector-General of Police 48 hours to produce Adeniyi Adeyemi Matthew, who is accused of posing as the director-general of the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council. Lawmakers are investigating allegations that Adeyemi used forged documents to portray the council and another purported government agency as legitimate. He is also accused of attempting to secure $1.3 billion in the 2026 federal budget, obtain office space at the Federal Secretariat and recruit about 300 workers. The committee said it identified about 29 suspected forged documents, including purported approvals from the State House, the Office of the Head of Service, the SGF's office and the Finance Ministry. Police told the House that Adeyemi had been arrested and arraigned on an eight-count charge at the Federal High Court. The committee said its investigation would continue without interfering with the ongoing police case and could recommend action against anyone linked to the alleged scheme.
