Woman Alleges Sexual Assault During Deliverance Session at Owerri Church

A woman has alleged that she was sexually assaulted during a purported deliverance session at a church in Umuoba Uratta, Owerri North LGA, Imo State. She said she visited the church with her mother but was later taken into a separate room, where the female bishop and six other women allegedly stripped and abused her. She further alleged that an unidentified substance was poured into her private parts as part of an attempt to cast out an evil spirit. The woman said her mother initially doubted her account after the bishop allegedly claimed that a spirit had been expelled. The allegations were shared in an audio recording circulated by a broadcaster and activist, but they have not been independently verified. The identities of the woman, the church and its leader have been withheld.
