Kano Father Mourns Three Daughters Who Drowned in Tiga Dam Boat Accident
A father in Yalwan Rugu-Rugu community, Tudunwada LGA of Kano State, has spoken of his grief after losing his three daughters in a boat accident at Tiga Dam. Murjanatu, Atikatu and Bilkisu, popularly called Amira, had gone with their brother, Usman Abdulhadi, to help harvest rice. They were returning home when their boat reportedly capsized in the middle of the water. Their brother and residents made efforts to save them, but rescue boats also capsized. About 200 people later joined the rescue effort, but the girls were recovered after several hours and could not be revived. Their father said the loss has devastated his family and left the community in shock. He had hoped to see the girls continue their education before the tragedy occurred.
