Edo Assembly Sets Up Probe Panel for Ex-Speaker Agbebaku, Orders Return of Vehicles

The Edo State House of Assembly has set up a six-member panel to investigate allegations against former Speaker Blessing Agbebaku, who resigned during plenary on August 16, 2026. New Speaker Yekini Idaiye alleged that Agbebaku was involved in financial impropriety, corruption, poor leadership and the inflation of prices for Lexus 570 SUVs and Toyota Hilux vans bought for lawmakers. The allegations have not been proven. Idaiye directed Agbebaku, former Majority Leader Jonathan Ibhamawu, Deputy Majority Leader Addeh Emankhu Isibor and the former Speaker’s chief of staff to return official vehicles and other Assembly property to the Clerk. The panel, chaired by Bright Iyamu, has two weeks to submit its report. The Speaker also announced the dissolution of all standing committees of the Assembly.
