Makinde Warns Obas Against Partisan Politics, Cites Need for Neutrality
Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has warned traditional rulers to avoid partisan politics, saying monarchs should remain impartial and serve all members of their communities. Speaking after receiving the Aare Asoludero of Ibarapaland title in Eruwa, Makinde said political campaigns often involve insults and abuse. He said traditional rulers who enter partisan contests should not expect to be shielded from such attacks. The remarks have drawn attention because of reported political differences between Makinde and the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Rashidi Ladoja. The Oyo State Government and the Olubadan’s palace have previously denied claims of any plan to remove the monarch or link him to an alleged impeachment plot against the governor.
