UNIBEN Student Murder Suspect Moved to Ekwulobia Prison Over Alleged Cult Activities

Kingsley Ogbonnaya, who is standing trial over the 2020 murder of University of Benin student Chinenye Promise Nwoye, has reportedly been transferred from the Awka Correctional Centre to the Ekwulobia facility in Anambra State. The transfer reportedly followed allegations that he was initiating other inmates into a cult group and engaging in other disruptive conduct. A source told the state broadcaster that the move has delayed court proceedings and may increase the cost of producing him for trial in Awka. The Anambra State Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service said the transfer was an administrative decision. It added that the defendant would be produced in court whenever required for the continuation of his trial.
