Jigawa Governor Umar Namadi Pardons 12 Inmates Ahead of Eid al-Fitr
Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi has granted state pardons to 12 convicted inmates ahead of the Eid al-Fitr celebrations. The decision follows recommendations by the State Advisory Council on the Prerogative of Mercy under Section 5(1) of the relevant law and Section 212(1) of the 1999 Constitution. The pardon was announced in a statement signed by Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice Barrister Bello Fanini. He said the gesture underscores the government’s commitment to goodwill and peace. He urged the beneficiaries—including Ibrahim Adamu Isa, Saidu Umar, Adamu Musa and others—to maintain good behaviour and avoid actions that could lead them back into conflict with the law. Fanini added that the pardon aims to promote reconciliation and reintegration. The government will support the ex-inmates with resettlement assistance. He also called on communities to welcome the beneficiaries and help them reintegrate successfully.
