British Tourist Killed, Dozens Injured as Bus Plunges into Ravine on La Gomera
A coach carrying British holidaymakers left a mountain road near San Sebastián de La Gomera during the Easter half-term and crashed into a ravine. Emergency crews confirmed one fatality at the scene and treated over 25 passengers, with three sustaining serious injuries and one critically flown to Tenerife for specialist care. The driver reported brake failure on the winding GM-2 road and attempted to steer onto a dirt track before the bus overturned. Photographs from the scene showed the vehicle on its side metres below the cliff, surrounded by ambulances and rescue teams. Canary Islands President Fernando Clavijo expressed condolences to the victims and their families. The incident highlights the risks of navigating La Gomera’s steep, sharp-bend terrain.
