Woman in Her 80s Hospitalised After Bear Breaks Into Colorado Home
A woman in her 80s is recovering after a bear entered her home in Estes Park, Colorado, through a closed but unlocked ground-floor window at about 4:30am on August 27. She woke up and found the animal in her kitchen upstairs. Officials said the bear charged at her, scratched her stomach and knocked her to the floor before leaving through the same window. She received hospital treatment for abdominal injuries and called emergency services. Wildlife officers have not yet found the bear and say any animal responsible for an attack on a person may be lethally removed as a public-safety risk. Residents have been advised to lock windows, doors and vehicles, secure rubbish, and avoid leaving food outside that could attract bears.
