Chowdeck Rolls Out Three-Tier Vendor Badges After Fake Restaurant Exposé
Chowdeck has launched a three-tier Vendor Badge system—Verified, Awaiting Verification, and Shopper—after an investigation revealed a fake restaurant could list itself and process real orders on the platform. The update enforces stricter documentation checks and partners with third-party verifiers Mono and SmileID. Fully verified vendors must now submit CAC registration, TIN, ownership details, operational addresses, and banking information before going live. ‘Awaiting Verification’ marks businesses still in the onboarding pipeline. ‘Shopper’ vendors aren’t direct partners, so a trained Chowdeck agent fulfills their orders by buying from local stores on the customer’s behalf. As Nigeria’s food delivery market expands, Chowdeck’s move highlights the need for transparent vendor checks. These changes aim to restore trust and set a new standard for safety and accountability in the industry.
