Nigeria’s UN Representative Says Tinubu Is Protected From Arrest During UNGA Visit
Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Jimoh Ibrahim, says President Bola Tinubu will not face arrest or travel restrictions in the United States while attending the 81st UN General Assembly in New York. He said the Nigerian Mission had received no communication from the US government suggesting that Tinubu would face restrictions during the meeting. Ibrahim cited Section 11 of the 1947 UN-US Headquarters Agreement, which provides protections for member-state representatives travelling to and from UN headquarters for official business. The ambassador dismissed social-media claims that Tinubu could be arrested during the trip, arguing that the agreement also covers UN officials, specialised agency representatives and invited participants on official UN business.
