Catholic Deacon Killed in Bear Attack After Sending Final Voicemail to Father
A 33-year-old Catholic deacon died in a suspected bear attack at Glacier National Park in Montana. He was found about 50 feet off the Mt. Brown Trail on May 6, roughly two and a half miles into his hike. Park officials reported injuries consistent with a bear mauling. Before the incident, he left his father a voicemail describing his day and expressing his love. His father said his son was an experienced hunter who had hiked through several national parks on a two-week road trip. The deacon, a University of Central Florida graduate and lifelong Floridian, had served at his local church and worked clearing trails in parks nationwide. A formal autopsy is pending as the park continues its investigation.
