Three Killed, Two Injured in Gunmen Raid on Plateau Mining Site
Reports say three people were killed and two wounded when gunmen stormed a mining site at Nyango in Jos South Local Government Area around 11:50am on Tuesday, June 30, 2026. Miners and nearby residents ran for safety as attackers opened fire. A resident said the gunmen opened fire indiscriminately, causing panic among workers and families in the area. The Berom Youth Moulders Association condemned the raid and highlighted a pattern of violence threatening Gyel and neighbouring communities. The group called on security agencies to dismantle criminal hideouts and take decisive action to restore lasting peace. They offered condolences to the families of the deceased and prayed for the recovery of the injured. The association accused members of the Fulani community of carrying out the attack. The Plateau chairman of the Miyetti Cattle Breeders Association denied the allegation and described it as false.
