Atiku Demands Presidency Apologise to Catholic Bishops Over Criticism

Atiku Abubakar has called on the Presidency to apologise to Archbishop Emeritus John Onaiyekan and the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria over criticism following their meeting with President Bola Tinubu. Onaiyekan said Tinubu disagreed with the bishops’ assessment of the economy and security situation, maintaining that his administration was on the right track. Atiku’s spokesman said religious leaders have a duty to speak honestly about the hardship, insecurity, unemployment and rising cost of living faced by Nigerians. The statement argued that the government should address the concerns raised rather than attack clerics or other independent voices. It also accused the Presidency of treating religious figures as political tools and demanded an immediate, unreserved apology to the Catholic Church and its faithful.
