NOA Says It Is Only Communicating Proposed Learner ID Policy, Not Implementing It
The National Orientation Agency has rejected NANS’ claim that it is overstepping its mandate through its involvement in the proposed National Learner Identification Number initiative. NANS had described the proposed Learner ID as unnecessary and potentially duplicating the National Identification Number. The student body also questioned why NOA was involved in the scheme. NOA Director-General Lanre Issa-Onilu said the agency did not create and will not implement the policy. He said its role is to explain government programmes to Nigerians, gather public feedback and help citizens understand how they may be affected. He urged NANS to direct concerns about the proposed Learner ID to the institution responsible for the policy, while saying NOA remains open to engaging students and other stakeholders on its relationship with the NIN.
