Ogun Says It Has Hired Over 7,000 Teachers, Sets Aside ₦24bn for School Infrastructure
The Ogun State Government says it has employed more than 7,000 teachers since Governor Dapo Abiodun assumed office. It also announced a ₦24 billion allocation through the State Universal Basic Education Board for school construction and rehabilitation. At the 2026 World Teachers’ Day celebration in Abeokuta, the state absorbed more than 1,500 OgunTEACh interns into the civil service and issued them appointment letters. The government said its education reform agenda will focus on teacher welfare, curriculum delivery, technology, funding and school management. More than ₦51 million was awarded to outstanding teachers, administrators and schools. First-place winners in the teacher categories received ₦2.5 million each, while selected primary and junior secondary schools received ₦10 million awards. The Ogun NUT said the administration had also implemented teachers’ promotions and removed the Grade Level 16 ceiling for primary school teachers, allowing further career progression.
